In line with the policy thrust of ‘Transforming Kwara State University into Financially Sustainable Institution’, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), has on Friday, May 30, 2020, inaugurated a 10-man Revenue Generating Board.

The Board alongside 17 newly introduced Internally Generated Revenue Centres have a mandate to make the University financially sustainable and independent without having to increase school fees or run on loans in the face of financial difficulties.

Akanbi expressed that even though the management is working hard to make the government restore the University’s subvention, KWASU should be on a financial pedestal to sustain itself.

“As a research intensive University, we have to start making money from our research. We cannot be doing research for research sake or promotion sake only. Our research must not just be in the archives. We must start to commercialise our research outcomes,” he said.

The don stated that it is very important for the Ivory Tower to have a direct impact on its community and as academics and academicians, the staff of the University must contribute positively to the state.

He called for synergy and collaborations among Faculties, Departments, Centres and Units in the Institution stating that he would not expect each of them to be territorial or work independently.

“Let us drop that idea that KWASU cannot get better. I want us to produce all that we can for commercial purposes. I want our products to take over the markets and we become a household” he added.

The Chairman of the Board, Professor Omololu Fapojuwo, responding, commended the initiative of the Vice-Chancellor, adding that it was very timely.

He said “IGR is always an important source of funding for the University. The University wants to get to greater heights but without funding, it will be difficult to do so”.

“When I looked at the composition of the board, I know there are talents and I have no doubts that together we will achieve the intended results,” he noted.

The Board also include the Former Bursar of the University, Mallam Mohammed Ndache as the General Manager and the Vice President, Finance and Professional Practices, KWACCIMA, Engineer Abu Salami, a member.

Centre for International Education, Centre for Foreign Language and Translation, Centre for Affiliation and Linkages, Centre for Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training, Centre for Research, Innovation and Training,
University Alumni Relations, KWASU Press and Printing and Centre for Community Development are some of the 17 Internally Generated Revenue Centres.
